Welcome back SEA Games!!!
For the 26th time, Southeast Asian Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia in November 2011. The opening ceremony will be on 11-11-11, officially opened by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia . SEA Games closes with its closing ceremony on November 22nd.
Indonesia's fourth time to host the SEA Games, it last hosted the Games in 1997. Parallel to the SEA Games, the 6th ASEAN ParaGames for physically disabled athletes, begins 2 weeks after the SEA Games ends, with competition to be held in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, Indonesia.
The capital city of Jakarta has been the host of Southeast Asian Games for three times, namely in 1979, 1987, and 1997. Palembang will be the third SEA Games host city that is not the national capital, after Chiang Mai and Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
More than 6000 athletes are estimated to be participating the 26th SEA Games and 666 events in 56 sports!
Anyhoo, have you heard about the torch relay?!
Well, The torch relay will travel through ten places: it begins in Merapen; Yogyakarta; Semarang; Komodo Island and Kupang; NTT; Papua; Makassar; Balikpapan and Samarinda; East Kalimantan; Jakarta; and Palembang. In addition, the torch will travel through nine other points before finishing in Palembang, South Sumatera, 6-11 November.
